Cobham actuation systems and subsystems are used in a wide range of emergency equipment including emergency inflation valves which are used to inflate emergency flotation devices, such as rafts and emergency evacuation slides on large commercial aircraft and helicopters and landing gear blowdown systems which are used to unlock, lower and relock the main landing gear structure in the down position in the event of failure of the main hydraulic extension system.
Cobham's military weapon actuation systems provide a pneumatic energy source for weapon racks to unlock and eject the weapon. Once the weapon is away from the aircraft, Cobham's Pneumatic Wing & Tail Actuators, which can provide up to 15,000 psi of pneumatic pressure, rapidly deploy the wings and tail fin into their full open position for flight in as little as 6/10 of a second.
Cobham also manufacturers a pneumatic canard fin control actuation system on GBU -10/12/16 weapons. This system controls the movement of the fins on smart weapons which allows the weapon to adjust position in flight and track to the target.
